THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY (epa) RECOMMENDS HOMEOWNERS TEST THEIR HOMES FOR RADON. CONDUCTING A RADON TEST IS THE ONLY WAY TO FIND OUT WHAT THE RADON LEVELS ARE IN YOUR HOME. THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF RADON TESTS; SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM TESTS.

A SHORT-TERM TEST WILL MEASURE RADON LEVELS FOR 2 TO 7 DAYS, OR A CONTINUOUS RADON MONITOR WILL TEST FOR A MINIMUM OF 48 HOURS, DEPENDING WHAT TYPE OF MONITOR IS USED. MOST HOMEOWNERS WILL USE A SHORT-TERM TEST, IT OFFERS QUICK RESULTS AND IS INEXPENSIVE TO PERFORM.

A LONG-TERM TEST WILL RUN FOR A MINIMUM OF 90 DAYS AND IS THE BEST WAY TO DETERMINE THE AVERAGE CONCENTRATION OF RADON DURING THE YEAR.

aT RADON HOME SOLUTIONS, WE OFFER BOTH SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM RADON TESTING and we follow the EPA Guidelines for testing. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS OR WOULD LIKE MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE SEE OUR CONTACT US PAGE ON this WEB SITE.
CONTINUOUS RADON MONITOR
how often should you test for radon?

RADON TESTING

  • The EPA recommends retesting your home every two years to be sure your radon levels remain low.
  • BE SURE TO TEST BEFORE AND AFTER YOU MAKE ANY STRUCTURAL RENOVATIONS SUCH AS BUILDING AN ADDITION OR FINISHING A BASEMENT, ETC. THERE ARE RADON RESISTANT TECHNIQUES THAT YOU CAN DO INEXPENSIVELY AS PART OF YOUR RENOVATION IF RADON NEEDS TO BE MITIGATED.
  • YOU SHOULD ALSO PERFORM A RADON TEST AFTER BUYING A NEW HEATING SYSTEM OR ADDING CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING.
